Support for SolarFlare/sfc card on Red Hat enterprise Linux 5

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6
  • anaconda
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1
  • kernel

Issue

  • Installing RHEL on an HP DL380 G6 with an additional SolarFlare SFN5122F network card (FibreChannel 10GbE)
  • Solarflare network interfaces cannot be configured at install time nor used during the install e.g. for iSCSI based installations
  • anaconda doesn't generate ifcfg-* files for the two interfaces presented by the SolarFlare NIC.
  • It seems that anaconda doesn't include or load the "sfc" module, but this is available after first boot.

Resolution

This is resolved in RHEL5.8 with newer version (11.1.2.250-1) of anaconda package, errata RHBA-2012-0197
and in RHEL6.2 with newer kernel (2.6.32-220), errata RHSA-2011-1530
