stopping cman at the same time on two nodes fails to stop qdiskd on one of them when using master_wins mode in a RHEL 6 High Availability cluster

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Sometimes we have the problem during stopping cman on one cluster node
  • When stopping cman on both nodes at once, one of them fails to stop qdiskd, and then I can't get it to stop in subsequent attempts either unless I force kill the daemon
# service cman stop
Stopping cluster:
Leaving fence domain... [ OK ]
   Stopping gfs_controld... [ OK ]
   Stopping dlm_controld... [ OK ]
   Stopping fenced... [ OK ]
   Stopping qdiskd...
                                                           [FAILED]

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 with the High Availability Add On
  • cman-3.0.12.1-49.el6 or later
  • Cluster configured to use a quorum device (<quorumd/> exists in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf)
    • The quorum-device daemon is configured to use master_wins mode through either:
      • <quorumd master_wins="1"/> in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf, or
      • There are no <heuristic/>s configured under <quorumd/> in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf and it is a two-node cluster
  • Stopping cman on both nodes right about the same time
