Trying to reuse an existing Ceph Journal disk with 'ceph-disk' or 'ceph-deploy' does not create a symlink to the journal disk, why?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • A common journal disk (usually SSD) can be used for multiple OSD disks.

  • In case an OSD disk dies off and needs to be replaced, 'ceph-disk' is used to mention the journal disk to which the writes intended for the new OSD should go to.

  • Unfortunately, in Firefly, adding a new disk with 'ceph-disk' does not handle re-using a shared SSD journal properly. It fails to create a symlink to the journal disk properly.

Environment

  • Red Hat Ceph Storage 1.2.3
