Brocade bna interface generates a large amount of soft interrupts (IRQs)

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • Brocade bna interface generates a large amount of soft interrupts (IRQs)
  • Issue is apparent on inbox and 3rd party drivers
  • So far this has been tracked with EMC appliances running the Brocade 1020 10Gigabit CNA adapters at multiple customers.
  • The description we have from Qlogic so far is that the receipt off CRC errors has the firmware and driver getting out of sync.
  • When this happens the hardware keeps sending interrupts that are not acknowledged by the driver so they ramp up in a hurry and cause unnecessary system overhead and performance issues.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Brocade NIC
  • EMC Appliance clusters running the GreenPlumb database have seen this issue at multiple customers
