CUPS seems to cause the Avahi daemon to flood the network with multicast traffic
Issue
Our ERP server has been going very slowly (ping times up to 800 / 900 ms instead of <1 ms). After investigation I discovered it was due to the Red Hat server sending multicast requests out and flooding the network. Analyzing these shows that it is CUPS trying to find IP addresses for the printers.
