"SKB BUG: Invalid truesize" errors observed in system as soon as eth0 enters promiscuous mode.

Issue

  • After running tcpdump system generating following messages :
Jul  2 13:26:24  RHEL5 kernel: device eth0 entered promiscuous mode
Jul  2 13:26:24  RHEL5 kernel: SKB BUG: Invalid truesize (292) len=66, sizeof(sk_buff)=240
Jul  2 13:26:25  RHEL5 kernel: SKB BUG: Invalid truesize (286) len=60, sizeof(sk_buff)=240
Jul  2 13:26:25  RHEL5 kernel: SKB BUG: Invalid truesize (703) len=477, sizeof(sk_buff)=240

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2
  • Kernel 2.6.18-92.el5.x86_64.rpm or lower.
