Why does installer go into blank screen and shows no progress while doing installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 using UEFI on Cisco UCS Hardware?

Issue

  • Installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 using UEFI boot mode enabled on Cisco UCS hardware.
  • As soon as the splash screen appears, and once an Enter is Hit, the installer goes into blank screen and never returns back. No further progress appears.
  • Once UEFI is disabled, Legacy BIOS Boot works fine.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 works as expected, UEFI boot as well as Legacy BIOS boot works too.
  • Why does this happen? Isn't UEFI boot on Cisco UCS supported or incompatible?
