Problem with the general_log_file in MySql5.5: mysql general log doesn't work with FIFO file

mysqlgeneral log doesn't work with FIFO file -
The upstream patch which I found just disables the general log for a non-regular file. So, in case that it's a FIFO file, the general log configuration is disabled since it's not regular file. Nothing is written into the FIFO file, but it doesn't crash.
