Long boot time on large memory systems in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

On systems with very large amounts of memory (12 TB and higher), the time spent in memory_dev_init() during boot up was excessively long.

This long delay in booting seems to scale O(n^2) such that 12 TB system booted in around 3 minutes, 24 TB booted in around 65 minutes. A 36 TB system is expected to take nearly a full day.
