Supporting PTP in a bonding configuration

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Supporting PTP in a bonding configuration
  • The ptp4l daemon fails to start in a bonding configuration although it succeeds in a non-bonding configuration, whether it tries to start in a hardware-timestamping mode or a software-timestamping mode.
  • Trying to start PTP on bond and get interface 'bond0' does not support requested timestamping mode

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), all versions
  • Multiple Ethernet network interfaces, both supporting PTP timestamping, in bonding
  • bonding mode 1 active-backup
  • Precision Time Protocol (PTP) with linuxptp package
