Adding the netmask to IP resource does not allow it to bind

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • My IP resource will not bind to any interface on the system. I am unable to ping my cluster VIP, or even start the service at all.

  • Creating an IP Address service/resource fails with is not configured error.

  • I see messages like these in /var/log/messages:


Jun 11 17:37:38 server.example.com rgmanager[10331]: start on ip "10.16.88.4/255.255.252.0" returned 1 (generic error)

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 (with the High Availability or Resilient Storage Add on)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with the High Availability or Resilient Storage Add on)
