How can one build RPMs with stripped and non-stripped components?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

When building an RPM the normal build process will strip any binary that gets into the RPM.

If one of the files is already stripped, it can happen that the file gets corrupted while being incorporated into the RPM.

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 (very likely 4 as well).
