Why there are multiple reverse lookups of the default gateway on my syslog server through the primary DNS server?

Issue

  • One of our syslog servers trying to do a reverse lookup of its default gateway through the primary DNS server. This behaviour is observed only when syslog daemon is running. We would like to understand why a syslog server which is meant to collect logs is doing a reverse lookup?
