After upgrade to RHEL6.6, NFS4 client receiving a TCP reset does not fail immediately but retries for RPC timeout, up to 10 minutes

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Failed NFS version 4 mounts retry for the RPC timeout in RHEL 6.6
  • Our NFS Server returns TCP Reset to some clients by design. The clients used to fail immediately, now they retry for 10 minutes.
  • Using NFS DFS on a Hitachi HNAS results in some clients having long delays mounting one DFS Link when the NFS Server is down.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.6
    • kernel 2.6.32-504.el6 or above
    • kernel prior to 2.6.32-642.el6
  • NFSv4 network file system
