The property "activemq.port" in "etc/system.properties" file overrides "etc/activemq.xml" configuration

Issue

We recently noticed that a configuration file in ActiveMQ called system.properties has a property called

activemq.port = 61616

And that if we change the value of the property, to for example 61617, it will change the value of the openwire transportConnector to 61617 even though the activemq.xml has the following configuration

<transportConnector name="openwire" uri="tcp://0.0.0.0:61616?maximumConnections=2000"/>

We would like to understand why and to know what is the point of the openwire connector on activemq.xml at all if it is not being used?
