lvm is showing wwid device names from /dev/mpath instead of /dev/mapper devices

Issue

  • pvs is showing multipath devices by their wwid name below /dev/mpath, e.g.
# pvs -a
  PV                                             VG      Fmt  Attr PSize  PFree  DevSize PV UUID                               
  /dev/mpath/3600507680182071b1000000000000abc                ---      0      0    1.00G                                       
  /dev/mpath/3600507680182071b1000000000000def                ---      0      0    8.00G                                       
  /dev/mpath/3600507680182071b1000000000000ghi                ---      0      0   50.00G                                       
  /dev/mpath/3600507680182071b1000000000000jkl                ---      0      0  100.00G                                       
  • we need LVM to use the persistent multipath devices names from /dev/mapper

Environment

  • RHEL5
  • /etc/lvm/lvm.conf has been modified
