Terminal stderr/stdout stops processing when gnome screensaver is activated

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

All stderr and stdout of custom application is sent to the terminal instead of a log or /dev/null.
When output a large amount of text to stderr or stdout to the GUI terminal, locking the screen will cause the process to pause until the screen is unlocked and then the window is highlighted.
The problem is not observed while connecting via ssh into the system, but seems to be gnome environment specific.
