resize2fs fails with "Stale file handle" error

Issue

  • We are unable to extend lvm partition getting the following error while running resize2fs.
resize2fs /dev/mapper/vg_test
resize2fs 1.41.12 (17-May-2010)
Filesystem at /dev/mapper/vg_test is mounted on /test; on-line resizing required
old desc_blocks = 8, new_desc_blocks = 11
Performing an on-line resize of /dev/mapper/vg_test to 45086720 (4k) blocks.
resize2fs: Stale file handle While trying to add group #1024

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3
  • e2fsprogs-1.41.12-12.el6.x86_64
