What's the impact on "WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing"

Issue

  • Each time when we reboot the server, we see the following messages in /var/log/messages. What do they mean and how can we fix this issue?

    Mar 19 07:53:55 serverX kernel: dm-4: WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing.
    Mar 19 09:58:36 serverX kernel: dm-4: WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing.
    Mar 19 10:00:52 serverX kernel: dm-4: WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing.
    
  • Do I need to worry about WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing messages in my logs.

  • The logged event WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing is causing the system to take a long time to reboot (slow reboot).
