Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • Setting maxlogins in /etc/security/limits.conf seems to not cleanup /var/run/utmp. Users that are not logged in and do not have any processes open on the system are not allowed to login.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.4
  • pam-0.99.6.2-6.el5
