How to modify the default TTL of a multicast packets in RHEL6?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • We use Multicast with java applications and the system tags our multicasts packets with a ttl=1 which cause the packet to be dropped by the next hop device.
  • Is it possible to change the TTL values of outgoing multicast packets with any system parameter (like sysctl)?
  • Is it possible to change the TTL of outgoing multicast packets using iptables?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.
  • Multicast traffic.
