fence_ilo2 fails with 'Unable to connect/login to fencing device' after updating to iLO firmware version 2.27 or later on a RHEL 6 or 7 High Availability cluster node

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Fencing with fence_ilo2 fails after updating iLO firmware to version 2.27
  • When I run fence_ilo2 from the command line, it reports "Unable to connect/login to fencing device" with no other details.
  • After I updated our iLO firmware, nodes can't fence each other.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 or 7 with the High Availability Add On
  • All fence-agents releases in RHEL 6, and all fence-agents-ilo2 releases in RHEL 7
    • Using fence_ilo2 for fencing
  • Cluster nodes running on HP servers with iLO devices for fencing
    • iLO using firmware version 2.27 or later
