Why does pcsd fail to start on a RHEL 6 or 7 system managing a High Availability cluster if ipv6 is disabled?

Issue

  • pcsd service fails to start if ipv6 is disabled.
  • After starting pcsd, the command service pcsd status returns the message pcsd dead but pid file exists

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 or 7 with the High Availabililty Add On
  • RHEL 6: pcs releases prior to 0.9.123-9.el6_6.2
  • RHEL 7: pcs releases prior to 0.9.137-13.el7
  • IPv6 is disabled on the host, either via ipv6.disable=1 on the kernel cmdline, or by blacklisting the ipv6 module, or through some other means.
