Why does SAN LUN with ext4 file system fail to mount?

Issue

• Not able to mount SAN lun with ext4 filesystem.

# mount /dev/mapper/mpatha /mnt
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/mapper/mpatha,
       missing codepage or helper program, or other error
       In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail  or so

• Running dmesg|tail shows:

EXT4-fs (sdc): ext4_check_descriptors: Checksum for group 3936 failed (43645!=0)
EXT4-fs (sdc): group descriptors corrupted!
