Why mails are getting queue by sendmail as soon as it arrive?

Issue

Sendmail is configure to relay emails to the postfix gateway server. Sendmail has the relay server name (name to ip mapped in hosts file) configured in it sendmail.mc/cf files. Sendmail server does not have any valid or working dns server entry in resolv.conf.

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (All version)
Sendmail (configured relay server name in SMART_HOST which is mapped with ip in hosts file, not in DNS).
Postfix relay server
