Start of XEN domU with vhostmd device not possible

Issue

  • A XEN domU cannot be started if a vhostmd device is attached to the domU
  • The following error is shown during startup:
Error: Device <number> (vbd) could not be connected. /etc/xen/scripts/block failed; error detected.
  • vhostmd service is up and running, and /dev/shm/vhostmd0 is accessible as well. Still the above error is shown during startup of the domU.
  • After removing the vhostmd device from the config the domU does start again.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5
