Does openssl generate lower-quality less-random keys than genkey?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • The openssl command is much faster at generating keys than genkey and openssl doesn't say anything about entering keystrokes to increase the randomness like genkey does.

  • Are openssl-generated keys lower-quality or less-random keys generated by genkey?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • genkey from crypto-utils rpm
  • openssl from openssl rpm
