Issue

  • When attempting to complete an online resize using the resize2fs command, on-line resizing fails with one of the following errors:
Filesystem at /dev/mapper/vg_test-lv_test is mounted on /mount; on-line resizing required
Performing an on-line resize of /dev/mapper/vg_test-lv_test to 125825024 (1k) blocks.
resize2fs: Operation not permitted While trying to add group #11800
kernel: EXT4-fs warning (device sda): ext4_group_add: No reserved GDT blocks, can't resize
  • How do I know if my filesystem is out of GDT blocks?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • ext3 or ext4 file system
  • resize2fs filesystem resizing tool from e2fsprogs or e4fsprogs package
