Network interface gets renamed by udev during booting in RHEV hypervisor after adding a new NIC

Issue

  • udev renames ethX network interface to renameX during booting, after adding a new NIC or when VMs are booting and RHEV macvtap devices are added
  • After Installation of RHEL 6.7, Cisco enic VF (Virtual Function) devices are named eth0 to ethX with the PF (Physical Function) named as the last interface ethY

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 and later
  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.4 or later
  • kernel-2.6.32.552.el6 and later
  • Cisco UCS with enic network driver
  • Cisco vm-fex Fabric Extender (SR-IOV and macvtap)
