rhel7: Why do I not get enhanced output upon boot, although bootmem_debug is enabled?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • I am trying to debug a problem with bootmem handling. Under Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6, I am using the kernel parameters "console=ttyS0,115200n8 earlyprintk=serial,ttyS0,115200 debug bootmem_debug", and I get the debug messages I want to see in the serial log.

Under RHEL7 this doesn't work. The parameters "debug bootmem_debug" don't seem to have any effect on the console output. Neither on the later output of "journalctl -k -l" or "dmesg" after system has booted. Adding "ignore_loglevel" or "loglevel=10" also has no effect on the output.

  • How to enable serial console bootmem debugging on RHEL7

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7
  • bootmem_debug
