Issue

  • vmtoolsd process stuck while freezing filesystems, and the backtrace indicates it is trying to open an automount path or an NFS file

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (VMware guest)
    • VMware provided VMware Tools
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (VMware guest)
    • seen on open-vm-tools-9.4.0-6.el7
  • NFS filesystems (either NFS3 or NFS4)
