NTP does not start at boot

Issue

  • NTP has been enabled to start on boot:
# systemctl enable ntpd.service
  • After reboot, ntpd.service does not start automatically:
# systemclt status ntpd.service
ntpd.service - Network Time Service
   Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/ntpd.service; enabled)
   Active: inactive (dead)
  • Even after making the ntpd service enabled after server restart it is not getting started.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
