Updating multipath packages causes boot from SAN to fail
Issue
- Updating the multipath packages, if done after the kernel update will result in a symbol mismatch in the multipath libraries in the dracut initramfs images.
- This will cause systems which boot from SAN devices with multipath to experience boot problems and failure because the multipath devices will not be activated.
- Systems that are not SAN boot will come up but will have errors, and if LVM filters are in place (default more recently) then some LVM and mpath served mount points won't be mounted.
Environment
- RHEL 6.5+ with updated kernels and device-mapper-multipath updates.
