Why did ps binary dump a core?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • The installed packages are of following versions
For RHEL 7
 procps-ng-3.3.10-3.el7.x86_64

For RHEL 6
# rpm -qa | egrep "kernel-2|glibc-2|procps-3"
glibc-2.12-1.132.el6.i686
glibc-2.12-1.132.el6.x86_64
kernel-2.6.32-431.5.1.el6.x86_64
procps-3.2.8-25.el6.x86_64
  • The ps binary dumped a core as follows.
# file core.ps.30915
core.ps.30915: ELF 64-bit LSB core file x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), SVR4-style, from 'ps -p 3008 --no-header -o pid,cputime,rssize,vsize,pcpu'
  • Can that be analysed why it dumped a core?
