RHEL6: Why gets my wlan network interface listed as "ethernet/wired" interface?

Issue

  • After installation, the ifcfg file of a wlan adapter contains "TYPE=Ethernet" instead of "TYPE=Wireless", i.e.
DEVICE=wlan0
HWADDR=60:67:20:72:AA:16
TYPE=Ethernet
UUID=ea778ae1-490b-46ca-bab1-7039dad0a28d
ONBOOT=no
NM_CONTROLLED=yes
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
ESSID=MYESSID

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.6
  • wireless interface
