How to restict access to a Linux host using SSSD and LDAP on RHEL6 or RHEL7?

Issue

When the hostname is hostname.example.com and my LDAP account is in a group which has host hostname.example.com, I can login
When the hostname is 'hostname' and my LDAP account is in a group which has host 'hostname.examples.com`, login fails.
