How should I configure my QDisk, cman, and totem timing settings in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf to account for path failures when using a multipath map for the quorum device?

Issue

  • How high should I configure the QDisk timings in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf to account for multipath path failures?
  • Do I need to set my quorumd, cman, and totem timings to be larger than the amount of time it takes for a path to fail?
  • Is there a way to test the time it takes for a multipath path to failover so that qdisk is properly configured?
  • When a storage path to the quorum device fails or becomes unresponsive, the node is evicted before it can switch to the next available path in the multipath map.
  • When I experience a path failure on my qdisk, the following message is printed even thought there is an available active path(s):
openais[2677]: [CMAN ] lost contact with quorum device

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 (with the High Availability Add on)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with the High Availability Add on)
  • Cluster configured with a quorum device (qdisk) in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf
  • Cluster configured to use a device-mapper-multipath map as the quorum device
