Boot a RHEL7 system from external storage with one path to the LUN and having the name `/dev/mapper/mpathX` in the OS.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Boot a RHEL7 system from external storage with one path to the LUN and having the name /dev/mapper/mpathX in the OS.
  • When a RHEl7 system is booted from SAN with one path to the LUN, then the device is detected as /dev/sdX and not /dev/mapper/mpathX. We want the name as /dev/mapper/mpathX

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Boot from SAN
  • DM-Multipath
