FREE_STATEID is sent with wrong user credentials on an NFSv4.1 client running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 which results in a hang

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Periodically an NFS client encounters a hang. While the issue is ongoing the NFS client prints the following messages to /var/log/messages:
Oct 10 13:16:12 hostname kernel: nfs: server nfsserver not responding, still trying
Oct 10 13:17:29 hostname kernel: nfs: server nfsserver OK
  • On the wire the NFS client is issuing a FREE_STATEID call with 0:0 credentials instead of the credentials that were initially used to make the LOCKU call.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
