[RHEL5] 'named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***' was sometimes logged.

Issue

  • Following message were logged in /var/log/messages at customer's site, and he wants to know what it means and workaroud if it is harmful.
 named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***
  • We understand that this message is logged when any processing does not finish within 15 seconds.

  • From /var/log/messages, it was logged at the following timing.

  May  7 01:28:16 kcc01 named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***
  May  8 01:05:03 kcc01 named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***
  May  8 01:28:12 kcc01 named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***
  May  9 01:28:14 kcc01 named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***
  May 10 01:05:06 kcc01 named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***
  May 11 01:05:00 kcc01 named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***
  May 11 01:34:54 kcc01 named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***
  May 12 01:25:48 kcc01 named[3275]: *** POKED TIMER ***
