Why doesn't augeas (augtool) handle /etc/sysconfig/ntpdate?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • augeas rpm (Optional channel)

Issue

  • The augeas package doesn't know about /etc/sysconfig/ntpdate, which is new in RHEL6.

Resolution

  • This oversight was reported upstream on the Augeas tracker1, but the latest version of Augeas already includes /etc/sysconfig/* in the default lenses

  • That said, it's unclear whether RHEL6 will see a rebase to a higher version of Augeas (open a case with Red Hat support if you're interested in this)

  • In the mean time it's extremely easy to add /etc/sysconfig/ntpdate to the default lenses for augtool -- as root, simply run:

    sed -i 's/sc_incl "ntpd.*/&\n sc_incl "ntpdate" ./' /usr/share/augeas/lenses/dist/shellvars.aug
