Why does yum fail with an error "Error Type: class 'yum.Errors.YumBaseError'" ?

Issue

  • While using yum , it failed with the following error message.
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.YumBaseError'>
Error Value: Error: rpmdb open failed
  File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3278, in <module>
  • Tried to rebuild the rpm database, but it gave the following error message about a thread lock.
rpmdb: Thread/process 17007/139970999985920 failed: locker has write locks
