Issue

  • The wrong path group is active in a multipath map that uses the hp_sw hardware handler
  • multipath maps using hp_sw hardware handler may use the non-optimal controller for the active path group in RHEL
  • multipath maps using hp_sw hardware_handler and mpath_prio_hp_sw prio_callout may failover to the non-preferred controller when created
  • All LUNs were initially distributed using the same (active) Data Path Module (DPM). At boot-time multipath tries to activate the standby DPM.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 or 6
  • device-mapper-multipath
  • A configuration or device that utilizes the hp_sw hardware_handler and mpath_prio_hp_sw prio_callout
  • A multipath map that has less paths in the preferred path group than in others
