Oracle JDK 1.7 requires JCE Unlimited Strength files

Issue

We are trying to decrypt a password that has been encrypted with JASYPT algorithm PBEWithMD5AndDES.

It fails with the exception:

org.jasypt.exceptions.EncryptionOperationNotPossibleException: Encryption raised an exception. A possible cause is you are using strong encryption algorithms and you have not installed the Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files in this Java Virtual Machine

  • Oracle Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_51-b13)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.5 (Santiago)
