Sharing Templates between RH(E)V environments

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We would like a method of sharing templates between RHEV environments. As it stands, the only method of moving templates between RHEV environment is via the NFS based Export storage domain.
  • Some customers may have multiple RHEV environments. The VMs built in these environment mostly derive from a common/standard RHEL template.
  • It would be beneficial to have the ability to share these common templates between environments rather than having to export/import them from a "golden source" template. There is already a built in method of sharing ISOs between multiple RHEV environments using the NFS based ISO storage domain type, so sharing of templates could follow this method. The tempaltes themselves are read-only afterall, just like ISOs.
