How can I tell 'libvirtd' to update the definitions of virtual machines?

Issue

In a RHEL cluster (HA Add-on) that runs KVM virtual machines as clustered services I have a script that regularly synchronises the XML files in directory /etc/libvirt/qemu between the cluster nodes.
How can I force libvirtd to update the definitions of new and existing virtual machines?

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
KVM virtual machines managed by libvirt.
