NFS errors on 32bit clients with RHEL NFS server running 2.6.32-431.23.3.el6.x86_64

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • After upgrading our RHEL NFS server from kernel version 2.6.32-431.20.3 to 2.6.32-431.23.3, some 32-bit NFS AIX clients began seeing issues.
  • For example, on some clients the 'ls' command reports 'out of memory' when applied to a directory on an NFS filesystem, while other times, when performing a filename auto-complete in xemacs, we see "Value too large to be stored in data type."

Environment

  • NFS Server: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5

    • kernel version: 2.6.32-431.23.3.el6.x86_64
  • 32-bit 'legacy' NFS clients
