How to flush a lun backed by PowerPath and remove PowerPath package?

Issue

We have brought the server up by commenting the san filesystem in /etc/fstab and stopping multipathing. But when I run multipath to check status , it agains go to kernel panic.
Multiple luns under powerpath are in failed/dead state.
