Installing BRMS and FSW 6 using graphical installer through Xming on remote Linux system causes issues in the GUI installer

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • It has been observed that sometimes users face strange issues while attempting to install products like BRMS (Business Rules Management System) or FSW (Fuse Service Works) on remote systems graphically. In one use case user attempted to install the graphical installer on remote RHEL 6 system from their Windows 7 systems using softwares like Xming as a Windows X server . During that installation it was observed that after first few screens (license agreement, install location) its asking to provide password for the user, but the password text field is disabled.
  • At times it is also found that the installation process was extremely slow and almost unusable. After changing to the silent install option (non-gui) and the install completed normally with no slowness.
  • Could this be an issue with softwares like Xming or with the network?
  • How to troubleshoot this kind of issue?

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss BRMS (BRMS)
    • 6.0.x
  • Red Hat JBoss Fuse Service Works (FSW)
    • 6.0.0
