IPv6 Router Advertisements and DHCPv6 Client Configuration
Issue
-
Can you set the Managed Config (M) and Other Config (O) flags found in an IPv6 Router Advertisement on the server? The server does not appear to respect the Managed flag in the Router Advertisement and obtains an IPv6 address from the DHCPv6 server.
-
DHCPv6 Stateless Config – How do you configure a linux server for DHCPv6 Stateless mode? In this mode, the IPv6 address should be configured statically. The router should listen to router advertisements so it can see whether or not the router has set the O flag or not, and then the router should request options only, not an IPv6 address, however, SLAAC and autoconfig should be disabled.
-
We know that net.ipv6.conf.interface.autoconfig=1 disables router advertisements as well as SLAAC, but we would like to be able to control those settings independently. There are times when we want to accept RAs but not use SLAAC. Essentially we’d like to be able to accept_ra=1 and autoconfig=0 at the interface level or the network level, to enable accept_ra, disable autoconf and enable DHCPv6?
